Under Marié
Under Marié is an independent (unsigned) Estonian alternative music group of six from Tallinn.
Under Marié was founded in the beginning of 2004 in Tallinn, Estonia and has since then rapidly developed into a considerable new sound in the Estonian alternative music scene. With concerts ranging from small underground events to large stages, Under Marié has been bridging the gap between the rapidly developing garage/noise rock and pop rock in Estonia.
Under Marié was formed by five university buddies: Tõnis Ormisson (guitar, backing vocals), Martin Rääk (guitar), Henry Vürst (bass), Margus Tammela (keyboards and electronics), and Timo Treit (formerly drums and percussions). Shortly after, they were joined by Leen Toome (vocals) to complement the unique mixture of characters in the band with a soft female approach. Unfortunately, due to busy schedule, Timo had to take time off from the band and Joosep Volk took the seat behind the drums.
With versatility in backgrounds and preferred musical genres, all the members of the band bring their own unique influences to the music. From classic rock to synthpop to trip-hop to jazz, from funk to electro to R'nB, Under Marié combines them into a special blend of musical experience of their own. Hovering on the boarder of pop and alternative music, they have yet to find an audience to fully appreciate the sense of being in between.
The first concerts of the band were given shortly after the formation of the group. The summer of 2004 was also the time of the first recordings in a home studio. In July 2005, the band took 24 hours off to record their first demo album with nine songs entitled “This Room So Small”, the title partially referring to the craving to spread their music across the world and partially to the fact that the recording studio was actually quite small.
Offering something unique and different to the mainstream in the alternative music world, the band has set it goals to taking its music outside the boarders of the region. Under Marié is currently in preparations to record its debut album to be released in the spring of 2007. The recording process is scheduled to begin in February 2007. Read more on Last.fm.
